Red Lipstik

If your mommy was strict, red lipstick was probably off limits until you were in your teens. That’s because it’s too darn sexy! Nude lips as well as darker colors have been fading in and out of the style radar for years, but red lips have always been there – a staple, trusted shade that cannot be substituted or removed from any makeup bag. If you’re looking to add that ooh-la-la factor into any chic outfit, red lips will do the deed. Just make sure to follow these rules from the pros!

Rule #1: Red is a classic color, so keep the rest of your make up on the same page, like Scarlett Johansson below. You don’t want to mix funky eyeshadow shades with bright red lips, unless it’s part of your Halloween costume.
Rule #2: Don’t play up the eye makeup too much, but make sure they’re well defined with eyeliner and neutral eyeshadow. Follow Hayden’s lead, and double up on the mascara. The defined eyes paired with the striking red lips make for a lovely duo.

Rule #3: Be precise in your lipstick application. There is nothing worse than lipstick that “bleeds” on the corners of your mouth or stains your front teeth. Use a bit of concealer around your lips to keep the lines distinct, and never attempt to reapply red lipstick during a bumpy taxi ride.

Rule # 4: Don’t be afraid to put a little gloss on it. If you’re not used to wearing red lipstick, adding gloss to make it even more noticeable may be a little intimidating. But, if you take a look at Rosario Dawson’s lovely smile, you may start to make sense of the trend.

Rule #5: Ignore the rules about size. You can look glamorous in red lips whether your lips are full like Angelina’s or thin like Kate Walsh’s. The trick is to make sure the shade of red complements your complexion and that your final look is coordinated and elegant.
